Two riders make their way through the towering walls of Canyon de Chelly, their figures almost disappearing against the immense scale of the red rock surrounding them. Ahead, a narrow opening catches the light, creating a natural focal point and drawing the eye deeper into the canyon.
The idea with this scene was the contrast between the tiny human figures and the enormous landscape around them. The riders give us a sense of scale, but they also bring a feeling of movement and possibility. They are already on their way somewhere, following the canyon forward toward that small opening of light.
I love the way landscapes can make us feel both small and completely alive. There is something adventurous about seeing these two figures moving through such a vast place, surrounded by layers of warm rock, shadow, and sunlight. You can almost imagine the echo of the horses beneath them and wonder where the path will lead next.
